About the G7 and Y7

The Group of Seven (G7) comprises seven advanced economies, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the European Union. The G7 meets yearly to signal economic and political priorities on global issues.

Y7: An Official Engagement Group

The Youth 7 (Y7) is an official youth engagement group of the G7, also known as the G7 Youth Summit. Y7 Summits convene young people across the globe, from the seven countries, to negotiate and communicate a set of recommendations to G7 leaders.

YDC has previously hosted a Youth 7 Summit in 2018 during which we brought together in Ottawa on the unceeded territory of the Algonquin:

  • 32 youth delegates from G7 countries;

  • High-level Cabinet members, including the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour;

  • the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the Minister of Status of Women; the Government House Leader;

  • and the Parliamentary Secretaries for Youth, International Development, Indigenous Services, and Canadian Heritage.
