Jaya Scott
Peace and Security Co-Chair
Jaya Scott is in the third year of her Juris Doctor degree at the University of British Columbia's Peter A. Allard School of Law. She earned her MSc in Environmental Protection and Management from the University of Edinburgh in 2022, and graduated with the gold medal in International Relations from the University of Western Ontario in 2020. Jaya grew up on unceded T’Sou-ke, Sc'ianew, Lək̓ʷəŋən, and W̱SÁNEĆ Territory, and is now based in Musqueam Territory.
At Allard, Jaya participated in the Jessup Moot on international law.Following success at the Canadian Moot, the Allard team went to the international competition in Washington, D.C., where they qualified for the second of the advanced rounds. She was also a clinician with the Allard International Justice and Human Rights Clinic, where she worked on a submission to the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights addressing human rights and environmental degradation. Jaya summered at Miller Thompson LLP's Vancouver office, where she will return for her articles.
In 2022, Jaya was one of the Canadian delegates to the Y7 hosted by Germany. She represented Canadian youth in negotiations on both the Sustainable and Green Planet and Youth, Peace, and Security tracks. Jaya looks forward to co-chairing the peace and security negotiations as part of the 2025 Y7. She believes that youth voices can provide a compelling and powerful vision of the way forward at this tumultuous global moment.
